GAF Timberline Roofing Done To Spec
GAF Timberline shingles are only as good as the install. We're GAF Certified — qualified to install the full system the way GAF actually wrote it and to register the manufacturer warranty in your name on completion day.
Fairview, NJ
North America's Most-Installed Architectural Shingle, Done Right
GAF Timberline is the most-installed line of architectural asphalt shingles in North America for a reason — the dimensional look, the wind ratings, the limited lifetime coverage. But the warranty, the wind rating, and the longevity all assume a contractor who actually follows GAF's install spec. We do. We're a GAF Certified Contractor in NJ — qualified to install the system the way GAF wrote it and to register the warranty in your name on the day of completion.
A Timberline install isn't just shingles. It's a layered system: deck protection, leak barriers at penetrations, starter strips, the field shingles themselves, and ridge cap. Skip a layer and you've voided the warranty. We don't skip layers — and the broader category of asphalt-shingle roofing covers the same thinking applied to other product lines.

Certified. Layered. Registered. Warrantied.
Without certification, a contractor can buy and nail down GAF Timberline — but they can't register the system warranty or install the upgraded packages. With certification, the install qualifies for the manufacturer's full coverage, and we hand you the registration paperwork the day we finish. That's a paper trail that lives with your house, not just in our office.
Get a GAF EstimateFour Things About Timberline Most Contractors Skip
Most contractors talk about the shingle. The shingle is one layer. The warranty hangs on every layer being installed correctly.
What Timberline Actually Is
GAF Timberline is a product family, not a single shingle. The mainline is Timberline HDZ — laminated architectural shingle with the LayerLock dual-laminate adhesive and the StainGuard Plus algae warranty. Timberline AS II adds Class IV impact resistance for hail-prone areas. Timberline UHDZ is the heavier-weight upgrade with longer wind warranty and a different shadow line. Timberline CS is the cool-roof variant with reflective granules. Each one has different rating tiers, different warranty terms, and different price points.
We'll walk you through which one actually fits your house, your weather exposure, and your budget. If Owens Corning's TruDefinition Duration line is a better fit, we'll tell you that too.
The Six Layers Of A GAF Timberline Roof
GAF's warranty registration assumes a complete system. Six layers, in this order: deck protection (a synthetic underlayment over the entire deck, not felt with a few tabs), leak barrier (ice-and-water shield at eaves, valleys, and around all penetrations), starter strip (factory-made GAF starter, not cut-up shingles), the Timberline field shingles themselves (correctly nailed in the LayerLock zone, six fasteners per shingle in high-wind areas), ridge cap (matching GAF Seal-A-Ridge or TimberTex), and ventilation (ridge vent or attic-fan equivalent — without it the warranty is void). Skip a layer and you've bought a roof, not a system. Pair the right flashing detail and attic ventilation with the install and the system performs the way GAF engineered it to.
No "Timberline Roof" Quotes Without The System
We won't quote a "Timberline roof" that's just the field shingle, felt underneath, and a starter cut from leftover tabs. That's not what GAF certifies, and it's not what their warranty covers. If our quote runs more than the next contractor's, that's where the difference is — and we'll show you the spec sheet before we ask you to sign anything.
Compare Honest QuotesWhat "GAF Certified" Actually Buys You
GAF runs a tiered contractor program. The base certification — the one we hold — confirms we're licensed, insured, in good standing with our customers, and trained on GAF's install specs and warranty registration process. Above that there are higher tiers (Master Elite, President's Club) with additional volume requirements that unlock the longer warranty packages (Golden Pledge, System Plus). At our cert level we're qualified to install the full Timberline system to GAF spec and register the manufacturer's standard limited lifetime warranty in your name.
We do not over-promise the upgraded warranty packages we're not authorized to register. We'll quote those tiers honestly if you ask, but most homeowners genuinely don't need them. A Timberline install most often happens during a full replacement, when the deck and ventilation can be properly addressed at the same time.
Which GAF Warranty You Actually Get
The standard manufacturer warranty on a GAF Timberline install at our certification level covers the shingles for a limited lifetime against manufacturing defects, prorated after a tier date that depends on the product line — typically out to 50 years on Timberline HDZ. Wind coverage runs to 130 mph as long as the install used the correct nail count for your wind zone (we use six-nail patterns on every Timberline install, which is the high-wind spec, regardless of zone). The algae warranty is 25 years on shingles with StainGuard Plus. None of this requires a fee or registration on your part — we register everything in your name on the day of completion and email you the certificate. The contractor workmanship warranty stacks on top: minimum 1 year on every install, transferable to the next homeowner if you sell the house.
Five Reasons NJ Homeowners Pick Us For The Timberline Install
When the warranty's going to live longer than most cars on the road, the install matters more than the brand on the wrapper.
- GAF Certified Contractor — qualified to register the full system warranty in your name
- Six-nail high-wind install pattern on every Timberline shingle, regardless of wind zone
- Synthetic deck protection over the full deck — not felt with a starter strip
- Ice-and-water shield at every penetration, eave, and valley — non-negotiable
- Spec sheet shared with you before signing — every layer named, every product spec'd
