About Emergency Roof Repair

Emergencies don't keep business hours. Neither do we.

Most roof emergencies in NJ aren't dramatic. They're a Tuesday-night discovery that water is pouring through a kitchen ceiling. They're a 6 a.m. realization that the wind ripped half a slope of shingles off overnight. They're a tree limb that came through the deck during a thunderstorm and now there's a hole open to the sky. The damage isn't "schedule a repair next week" damage — it's "stop the water now or my drywall is destroyed by morning" damage. That's what an emergency call gets us out for.

When you call us with a roof emergency, the first thing we do is figure out how urgent — actually urgent. Sometimes it's a same-day tarp job. Sometimes it can wait until tomorrow morning if the immediate water is buckets-and-towels manageable. Either way, we move on it. If the damage came from a storm event, we coordinate with insurance per the storm damage process. If it's a sudden leak with no obvious cause, we run the same diagnostic our leak repair work uses, just compressed into a faster timeline.

Why Emergency With Craftsman

Fast response, real fix, written warranty — even on the same-day calls.

An emergency response isn't an excuse for a rushed repair or a panic-priced quote. We get there fast, stop the active damage, and document everything with photos. The permanent repair gets the same written warranty as any other job we do — minimum one year on repairs, full manufacturer warranty if a replacement is needed. Same crew, same standards, same accountability.

The Craftsman Emergency Response

Four things to know when you're standing under a leak at 9 p.m.

Emergencies don't happen on a schedule. Here's how to think clearly about one — what counts as an emergency, what we'll do first, and how the permanent repair gets handled after the immediate problem is contained.

01 — Is This Actually A Roof Emergency?

If water is actively coming inside your house, the answer is yes.

Active water entering interior space — through a ceiling, down a wall, into an attic that wasn't wet yesterday — is an emergency. Visible daylight or open sky through your roof deck is an emergency. A tree limb resting on or punching through the roof is an emergency. A whole slope of shingles peeled back by wind, even if it isn't leaking yet, is an emergency because the next rainfall will saturate the underlayment. A flat roof with standing water that wasn't there last week is an emergency because the membrane is probably failed.

What's not a true emergency: a small drip in a far corner of the attic that you've been watching for a few months, a shingle on the lawn from a windy afternoon, a stain that hasn't grown in two weeks. Those still need a real repair — call us during normal hours and we'll book a one-hour window — but they don't need same-day mobilization. We'll be honest with you on the phone about which one you've got, because we don't want to charge emergency rates on a non-emergency, and we don't want to miss a real emergency that got minimized.

02 — What Happens In The First Two Hours

Stop the damage. Document it. Talk about everything else after.

When we arrive on an emergency call, the first job is containment. If there's an active leak, we identify the entry point and tarp it properly — fastened to sound deck, lapped over the ridge, sealed at the edges, weighted down. A real tarp job, not a piece of plastic thrown across a roof. If a tree or limb is on the structure, we coordinate with whoever's removing it (us or a tree service) and tarp behind the removal. If a section of shingles peeled off, we cover it cleanly so the underlayment doesn't get a soaking before we come back to do the permanent repair.

While the stabilization is happening, we document everything with date-stamped photos. If you're going to file an insurance claim — common with storm and tree damage — you'll have the photo record you need from day one. We don't charge separately for the documentation. It's part of the emergency call.

No Emergency Markup Games

The emergency rate is the honest emergency rate. Not the "you have no choice" rate.

Emergency calls cost more than regular service calls — that's normal across any contractor industry, and it reflects the after-hours mobilization, the priority crew, and the materials kept ready for fast response. What we don't do is double the price because you're stressed, padding line items because you can't get a second quote, or pretending a $400 tarp job is a $1,500 emergency. You'll get a written quote in front of you before any work starts, even on the urgent calls. If you're not happy with it, you can call someone else — no obligation, no charge for the trip.

03 — From Tarp To Permanent Fix

A tarp is the bridge. The permanent repair is the actual fix.

Tarps buy you time, not a solution. Once the immediate damage is contained, we schedule the permanent repair — usually within days for most scope, sometimes weeks if a full replacement is involved or insurance approval is in process. The permanent repair gets the same standard as any non-emergency job: right material at the failure point, manufacturer-spec installation, photographed before and after, full cleanup, written warranty in your hand before final invoice.

If the emergency revealed that the roof is actually past its useful life — which happens when an "emergency leak" turns out to be the third leak this year on a 22-year-old shingle field — we'll tell you honestly that a full replacement is the right call instead of another patch. You decide either way; we just give you the straight diagnosis. If a claim is involved, the permanent repair gets coordinated with your adjuster the same way we handle any insurance work.

04 — How After-Hours And Weekend Calls Work

Real humans answer the phone. Real crews go out.

When you call our emergency line outside of business hours — evenings, weekends, holidays — you reach a real team member, not an answering service that takes a message and forgets it. We triage the situation on the phone: what's happening, where you are, whether it's a true emergency that needs same-night response or whether it can wait safely until first light. If it can wait, we usually advise interior containment (move belongings, set buckets, kill power to wet circuits) and we're at your door at the first practical opportunity. If it can't wait, we mobilize.

We're licensed and insured in NJ, and the emergency crew on the truck is the same crew who'd be there during business hours — not a subcontracted after-hours team. Same standards, same warranty, same accountability. If the emergency leads into a claim, the documentation we capture in those first hours often makes the difference between a clean approval and a back-and-forth fight, so we work careful — even at 11 p.m. on a Saturday.
